How To Use Local Fonts In Editing PSD Templates

Installing the Font:

  1. Download your font file: Fonts typically come in .ttf or .otf formats (Included in our template bundle, Shop here). Make sure you download the font from a reputable source.
  2. Locate the downloaded file:  This will depend on your web browser settings. It’s usually in your Downloads folder.
  3. Installing the font (varies by operating system):
    • Windows:
      • Right-click on the font file and select “Install”.
    • Mac:
      • Double-click the font file. This will open Font Book. Click “Install” in the Font Book window.

Using the Font in Your Software:

Photopea:

  1. Open Photopea in your web browser.
  2. Click on the “Text Tool” (T icon) in the toolbar.
  3. In the top bar, you should see a font selection dropdown menu. Click on it.
  4. Scroll through the list of fonts or use the search bar to find your newly installed font. Alternatively choose the “Load Font” option and select from the browser window to load the font.
  5. Select the font and start typing your text.

Adobe Photoshop:

  1. Open your PSD file in Photoshop.
  2. Click on the “Text Tool” (T icon) in the toolbar.
  3. In the “Character” panel (usually on the right side), you’ll see a font dropdown menu. Click on it.
  4. Activate the “Show All Fonts” checkbox (if not already active) to see all available fonts.
  5. Find your newly installed font in the list and select it.
  6. Type your text using the Text Tool.

GIMP:

  1. Open your PSD file in GIMP.
  2. Click on the “Text Tool” (A icon) in the toolbox.
  3. In the “Tool Options” dock (usually on the right side), look for the “Font” selection. Click on the dropdown menu.
  4. You might need to click on the small arrow next to the font list to see more options.
  5. Select your newly installed font from the list.
  6. Click on your image and start typing your text.

Tips:

  • Restart your software after installing the font to ensure it shows up correctly.
  • If you’re unsure where a specific option is located, refer to the software’s documentation for detailed instructions.
  • Not all fonts are created equal. Some fonts might not be suitable for all design purposes. Choose fonts that complement your project’s style.
